Muguruza, 12th in the world and 2nd in the race, returns to Charleston

Garbiñe Muguruza is already preparing the gravel season with his team, led by Conchita Martínez. The Spanish has no choice but to forget the defeat against Bianca Andreescu in the second round of the Miami Open, because next Monday starts his next tournament, the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, still on American soil. A WTA 500 with very good participation (Barty, Kenin, Kvitova, Bertens, Bencic, Mertens, Keys, Sakkari, Anisimova, Gauff …) and in which at least one other Spanish player will also play: Paula Badosa.

Garbiñe, who has stayed in Florida to rest two or three days, will leave on Monday in 12th place in the ranking because he has won one with respect to the one he occupies this week, and also will remain in second place in the race to the WTA Finals, only behind Osaka, whatever happens in the event that is still being played at Hard Rock Stadium, because not even Barty could overtake him even if he wins the trophy.

After the tour of the US, in principle and depending on how you do in Charleston, Muguruza will rest for a week to face the WTA 1,000 in Madrid and then will play in Rome and at Roland Garros.
