Marcelino: “If Murthy wants to threaten us, let him speak up”

Marcelino Garcia Toral went through the microphones of ‘The Cope Game’ more than a year after his dismissal in the Valencia and, among many other things, he spoke of the stormy end and his bad relationship with the president Anil Murthy, who has hinted at things about the Asturian without going into depth.

“I would not be particularly interested in greeting him if I do meet him. If Murthy wants to threaten us, let him threaten us. Speak. When you make a decision against everyone and everything, you always have to leave something there, but it is not a matter of throwing the stone and hiding your hand, what you have to say, well you say it, and what you say you have to prove it. Our honesty is beyond question. They will not find any anomalous situation, this would take place if I had separated myself from the sports management to make decisions ”.

Marcelino said that “in preseason we had a conversation in Singapore, they told us that everything was still the same and the next day we saw that they did not comply with what they had told us. At a face-to-face table is where things are settled and where lies are seen. When they fired me, I didn't see Anil Murthy ”.

Of his players, he indicated that “it is not true that the Valencia squad is conflictive. I lived with those footballers and since 2003 I have had few squads with a personal level like that ”.

The coach recalled that they tried to “force them to throw the Copa del Rey. The day before I played the second leg against Getafe, a person close to me told me to throw away the Cup and not to put the best team in. ” Curiously, Valencia went back in extremis that tie with Getafe and ended up proclaiming champion.

“The way to proceed with Javi Gracia is very similar”

For all the experiences, Marcelino wanted to compare with the current coach, Javi Gracia. “The way to proceed is very similar. I was the first and Javi is now in a situation where they tell him one thing and then do another. Logical that it feels like this. One of the reasons they told me was that I was challenging the owner. When I never did ”.

“I have not the slightest complaint with Ferran Torres”

Regarding what was said about his relationship with Ferran Torres, he indicated that “I have not the slightest complaint. He was an ambitious boy, who wanted to play, as he still is and is an important value that adds to his talent, but he was respectful. He liked training, he's young, with great conditions and he's showing it now ”.

“I prefer to train outside of Spain”

Finally, he spoke about his future after being related to Celta and Athletic. Of the Galicians, he said that “we have spoken, it is an attractive club but since Valencia rescinded our contract our idea is to go to a league like England, Italy or France. I prefer to train outside ”. And of the Basques he commented that “Athletic has a great coach and now he will be working to win.”
