Milan striker Mario Mandzukic has earned the admiration of Italian football for his latest gesture of solidarity. The Croatian has renounced his salary for the month of March and has donated it to the Milan Foundation, that develops projects in favor of young people in conditions of economic and educational fragility.
The former Atlético de Madrid striker was injured on February 18 in the first leg of the Europa League round of 32 against Estrella Roja. The Croatian suffered a micro-rupture of the left hamstring. This ailment forced him to miss 11 games and he could not play any of the matches last March., so the player has considered that this money does not belong to him and has decided to give it to help the most disadvantaged. “An exceptional gesture,” said Milan president Paolo Scaroni, according to statements collected by the ANSA agency.
Mandzukic came to Milan in the winter market, but has only been able to help his team in five games before being injured. Last Saturday, he already sat on the bench during Milan's 1-3 triumph against Parma, although he did not play any minute.
