Real Madrid and Barcelona could meet in the semifinals of the Champions League if they overcome their knockout stages of the knockout stages and quarterfinals, according to the draw that was held this Friday in Nyon and in which former Portuguese international Paulo Sousa was in charge of removing the balls. Atlético, meanwhile, will face Leipzig in quarters and then, if it happens, the winner of Atalanta-PSG.
The winner of the Real Madrid-Manchester City tie will face the winner of Lyon-Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo appears, then, on the hypothetical horizon of Madrid. For his part, the winner of Naples-Barcelona will play against the winner of Chelsea-Bayern. If Madrid and Barça exceed their commitments they would see each other in the semifinals.
The quarterfinal matches will be played on August 12, 13, 14 and 15. The semifinals will be on the 18th and 19th of the same month. And the final, at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa, on the 23rd.
It should be remembered that Real Madrid and Barcelona still have their second round duels of the round of 16 pending, to be held on August 7 and 8. The Whites fell to Manchester City at the Bernabéu 1-2 and they will have to play the return in an Etihad without public. ANDl Barcelona, meanwhile, tied at Naples (1-1) and must resolve the tie at Camp Nou. UEFA was in favor of these two games, plus the other two pending (Juventus-Lyon, with 1-0 for the French in the first leg, and Bayern-Chelsea, with German victory in London by 0-3), were already held in Portugal (Porto and Guimaraes), as will happen with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, but local teams forced to play in their stadiums.
