Luis Enrique: “If I hadn’t been a footballer I would be a firefighter or a police officer”

“I’m a modest guy even if it doesn’t seem like it at a press conference”

“My extension in the field is Ferran, if not my daughter cuts off my head”

MADRID, 19 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The national soccer coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, left a second ‘streamer’ session this Saturday in which he discussed different topics, not only soccer and the Qatar 2022 World Cup, even showing photos of his vacations in Costa Rica, the rival debut next Wednesday.

‘Lucho’ returned to the charge like on Friday, in the office he has in the residence of Spain in Doha. The coach began by apologizing because the day before he confused the ‘tico’ country with a South American country, an error that he also described as unforgivable because he was in the Central American country six years ago on vacation.

The Spanish coach promised to show some photos and, after 45 minutes of broadcasting, he complied with the snapshots of his family and himself. In sports, Luis Enrique explained that on Saturday they had a “good level of training”, that the players continue with “a lot of desire” and that this Sunday they will see the start of the World Cup with Qatar-Ecuador.

“Group F and G, with which we can come across, are the ones that I will see above all. It is the football festival and you have to enjoy it,” he said about what he will be able to see of the World Cup. In addition, the ‘La Roja’ coach explained that they go on a scooter because “it is a simple, comfortable and fun means of transport”. “We have taken care that there is something for everyone, in the EURO there was not something for everyone”, he confessed.

On the other hand, the coach highlighted the importance of family and friends, especially after a defeat, and answered the question about the best coach in the world, after him. “I’m a fairly modest guy, even if it doesn’t seem like it in the press conferences. I have my feet on the ground. Pep Guardiola, who is also a friend, Klopp, Ancelotti, there are many very good ones, with many titles and who have done well in different clubs,” he said.

Luis Enrique also had time to praise Fernando Alonso, to talk about cycling and to think about what he would have been like if he hadn’t been a footballer. “If he hadn’t been a footballer, he would be a firefighter or a policeman,” he confessed, while pointing out that he did not see himself as a coach as a player.

The technician, who ended up showing those photos of his family in a session that he said had close to 400,000 followers, ended up answering one last question with humor. “If Busquets was the extension of Del Bosque in the field, what is yours? Ferran Torres is mine, if not my daughter cuts my head off,” he said, referring to the relationship between the two.
