Letter from Josua Mejías: “I apologize to colleagues, friends, family and fans”

Rectifying is wise. Josua Mejías, the Venezuelan defender of Malaga, has publicly apologized through a sincere letter addressed to the fans for partying on New Year's Eve in the middle of the pandemic and without respecting protocols. The player did not travel to Albacete “for disciplinary reasons” as explained by Sergio Pellicer, but this Monday he trained with the rest of his teammates and may be among those chosen to be called up against Oviedo in Wednesday's Cup match.

“Dear Malaguistas,

This is probably the most difficult letter I have ever written in my life. A few days ago I made a very serious and absolutely inexplicable mistake. What started with a dinner with my close circle turned into images that damage everyone's sensibilities at the moment. I am aware of the danger that I have generated in my colleagues, in the population in general and in myself.

The COVID-19 pandemic has put the entire world in check, claiming millions of victims. A tragedy that can only be stopped by avoiding precisely what is seen in those images. I apologize to family, friends, colleagues and fans. I want to extend this apology to all citizens in general. To those who have suffered or suffer from this disease, to their family and friends, to the health workers and members of state security who put their lives at risk every day to help others, and to all those who may have felt offended by me attitude.

I have had time to reflect. These words are totally sincere. The club has imposed a sanction on me that I assume with maturity, respect and resignation. This shield is too big to stain with attitudes like this. Obviously, this will not happen again. It was a mistake from which I have learned enormously. I pray daily that no one is harmed by my actions and that the nightmare of this pandemic ends soon. I apologize”.

Josua Mejías.
