Leave football to go to war

Fighting in Nagorno Karabakh, which have worsened in recent hours and are far from reaching a ceasefire, have also impacted the world of football with the paralysis at the last moment of the signing of Varazdat Haroyan for him AEL Lárisa.

The agreement between the captain of the Armenian team and the Greek team was practically complete. Haroyan was in Greece to sign and enter the Greek Super League, when he decided to respond to the call of the Armenian Army to all those under 40 years of age to join its ranks.

The club in the northeast of the country decided to communicate the news to its fans in an unorthodox way, sharing on social networks the text message with which Haroyan's representative informed the owner of the EAL, Alexis Kuyas, of the defender's decision to park his career as a footballer to go to war.

“Now Haroyan cannot go to Europe. I'm sorry but times are difficult in Armenia, we are fighting with Turkey, not officially but they give all their power and soldiers to Azerbaijan. We don't know what he will do even tomorrow, it is a great war.” , says the sms that the team published.

“We are very happy with your cooperation. We hope that this war ends and everything returns to its place. God bless us all,” concludes the representative of Haroyan.

According to the Greek club, the 28-year-old defender is already on the battlefield.

Haroyan played for Ural in the Russian Premier League for the past three seasons but decided to terminate his contract and try his luck in Greece. For now, his obligations to his country make it impossible.

The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict dates back to the times of the Soviet Union, when at the end of the 1980s the Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno Karabakh, populated mainly by Armenians, requested their incorporation into neighboring Armenia, after which a war broke out which caused some 25,000 deaths.
