Katir, Mechaal, Lamdassem and Carla Domínguez lead the ASICS track and field team for 2023

Mohamed Katir, Adel Mechaal, Ayad Lamdassem and Carla Domínguez lead the ASICS Running Club for this 2023, after a 2022 full of successes and which has increased its squad with 9 new signings to be present in the best world cross-country events, indoor track , outdoors, route and trail running.

The 2023 team will be made up of Mohamed Katir, bronze in the last World Cup in Eugene (United States) in 1,500 and silver in the European Championship in Munich in 5,000; Adel Mechaal, the latest signing, European record holder of 3,000; and Ayad Lamdassen, fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Marathon.

Also included are Jorge Blanco, Spanish marathon champion; Eduardo Menacho, European sub-23 champion in 10,000; the athlete and triathlete David Cantero; and the trail runners Andreu Simón, national champion in 2020 and 2022 and Marcos Ramos, bronze in the Ultra Trail World Championship last year.

In the female category, Carla Domínguez, the young Catalan bronze medalist in the U-20 World Cup and national U-20 record holder in 5,000, apart from the European U-20 champion in 2021; Laura Méndez, Spanish champion of 10 kilometers and silver in the European team in Munich; Cristina Ruiz, Spanish cross country champion; and the marathon runner Majida Maayouf.

Among the team’s objectives in 2023 are the Spanish indoor and outdoor championships in February and summer, and, above all, the World Championship, from August 21 to 27, in Budapest.

“Our commitment to competition is firm, and we continue to strengthen ourselves both in triathlon, as in trail running and athletics, with great established figures, but also supporting the youngest, accompanying them in their progress and professional growth”, commented Santiago Martínez , marketing manager of ASICS Iberia.

Jorge Blanco and Laura Méndez will be present on February 19 at the Seville Marathon, a test sponsored by ASICS, with the aim of improving their personal best and thus achieving the Olympic minimum for the Paris 2024 Games.

“After a year defending the colors of the ASICS Running Club, I am looking forward to starting this second year with the Club. A very interesting year is ahead and full of good competitions, in addition to the World Cup in August, so we will try to work hard to always be at the top”, commented ‘Mo’ Katir.
