Julio Velázquez leaves the bench for Vitória de Setúbal

Vitória de Setúbal announced this Thursday that it reached an agreement with the Spanish Julio Velázquez to cease his duties as coachr of the team, which will be temporarily assumed by Albert Meyong.

The dismissal of Velázquez is immediate, the club explained in a statement, so the Spaniard no longer led the training this afternoon.

Velázquez, a native of Salamanca and 38 years old, had been training Setúbal since last November, when he arrived to fill the position of the dismissed Sandro Mendes, but has not been able to trace the team's flight.

Setúbal is only 3 points from relegation and since the return of the competition after the break by Covid-19 has signed two draws and three defeats, the last one this week against Vitória Guimarães (2-0).

Before his arrival at Setúbal, Velázquez already had a journey in Portuguese football, since he coached Belenenses between 2015 and 2016.

Meyong, a former Cameroonian striker who was part of the technical team, will take over the Portuguese team for now, As it happened in October and November 2019, when the club was looking for a substitute for Sandro Mendes. So the team added four of the nine possible points.
