“I will not support Djokovic, but if it makes him earn more money, I will thank him”

The division between tennis players as a result of the new association that Novak Djokovic intends to create to distance himself from the ATP has once again experienced a fever pitch these last weeks during the Masters 1,000 in Miami, where the differences became apparent again.

The biggest example was the tense meeting that took place between the Players Council with the president of the ATP Andrea Gaudenzi shortly before the start of the tournament. One of the most active in that meeting was the Canadian Vasek Pospisil, Firm defender of the PTPA promoted by Novak Djokovic, who fell to Mackenzie McDonald on his debut in the tournament and who even threatened to denounce the ATP and its president in the middle of the game.

Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik was asked about this question at a press conference after losing to Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the Miami Masters 1,000. Bublik wanted to distance himself from Pospisil's statements and also from Djokovic's PTPA. “I saw the video of Vasek in which he said that he was going to sue the ATP. I don't agree with the PTPA. I enjoy what I do.”

However, he does trust that Djokovic will improve the conditions of the tennis players on the circuit, although he recognizes that, right now, it is the ATP who feeds them. “Of course, if Novak makes me win more I will thank him, but I will not fight for his association. The ATP is the one who feeds us and I will not go against him because I do not think Djokovic and Pospisil are going to sue them.”
