How to Succeed in the Fantasy Premier League

Do you struggle to make any real impact in the world of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL)? Have you ever wondered what keeps you from breaking into that top tier of fantasy football players? You probably watch every Premier League game you can set your eyes on. There’s no doubting your love for the beautiful game at all. Yet, earning any sort of bragging rights in fantasy football is something you have failed at, year after year.

Have a read of this quick guide and see if any of our FPL tips can help you. We’ve kept it pretty simple as we don’t want this information to overwhelm anyone. Our hope is that we can be more of a help than a hindrance to you budding FPL champions.

Never Give Up

Just like that now-famous t-shirt Mohamed Salah was wearing as Liverpool came from three down to beat Barcelona in the second leg of the 2019 Champions League semi-final, we implore you to never give up. Thousands of FPL players pack it in after they have a couple of bad gameweeks. It can happen to anyone. Some bad choices can lead to points being missed out on. Other times, you might have some stuff going on in your actual real life! This can lead to missed gameweek deadlines where you didn’t get to make any changes to your FPL selection at all. Your captain may not be who you want this week, you missed out on transfers and you could now have one or more injured players in your first eleven. It can be incredibly frustrating. Despite all that, though. NEVER GIVE UP. Those mistakes will happen throughout the season. More importantly, they are likely to affect most FPL players, not just you. Make an excellent captain choice or a few under-the-radar transfers that no-one else thought of and you could be right back in the game. It’s not unheard of to gain 20 points back in a gameweek, maybe more. So don’t think an early lead for someone in your FPL competition is insurmountable. You can catch them if you put your mind to it. The season is almost nine months long after all.

Your Very Own FPL Routine

At the heart of any successful venture into fantasy football is a structured routine – an approach where you know what you need to do every week, and how you need to do it.

Many of these steps may seem obvious to some but it’s still beneficial to see what a regular FPL routine can look like in writing. It can become the staple of your FPL approach.

Here are some tips and pointers on what your FPL routine must include:

  • Study the upcoming fixtures – we’re not just talking about the immediate game that’s coming up for each club here. You should try to get an idea of how each team’s next three or four matches are looking, difficulty-wise. This will guide you when deciding on how many points a player is likely to score over this period in FPL.
  • Read the scout reports – plenty of fantasy football tips sites out there provide up-to-the-minute information on teams and players. Find a site you like the look of and go with it.
  • Check reliable sites for predicted lineups – maybe a day or so before each gameweek deadline is due to close you’ll be able to view the expected lineups for the Premier League. Predicted lineups are priceless when they come from a reliable source so be sure to find that site you know you can depend on.
  • Always do a final check on the injury list – the last thing you do each week should be to give one final glance over your team selection. This is to make sure no last-minute injuries have occurred. It can help prevent some terribly frustrating weekends for you throughout the season if you avoid having injured players in your FPL team.

The World of FPL Welcomes You

Like the old saying goes, the more the merrier. Don’t forget that, at the heart of it all, fantasy football is still a game. It’s there for your enjoyment. Try to have fun and don’t take it too seriously. We just want to give you a helping hand to earn some bragging rights among your mates.

Now, go take the FPL world by storm!
