Harris takes down Shapovalov and Zverev will meet Sinner

The only surprise that Saturday's day offered at the top of the US Open men's draw was given by Lloyd Harris against Denis Shapovalov. The South African beat the Canadian, tenth seeded, by a triple 6-4 in 2:12, who had just played a great game against Roberto Carballés. But he found a tennis player who is in the best moment of his career, who served well and missed half that of his rival. That is why he will be the one who will face Reilly Opelka in the round of 16, a round that reaches for the first time in a Grand Slam.. The American could with the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, whom he beat 7-6 (5), 6-3 and 6-4 in 2:15. Opelka also had its best result in majors.

One of the big favorites for the title, last year's finalist Alexander Zverev, came back from a match that started at a disadvantage against another American player, Jack Sock., when he had to leave due to a right thigh injury during the fourth set. The German won by 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and 2-1. He will meet Jannik Sinner on Monday in one of the most attractive matches of the fourth round. The Italian had to fight a lot to bring down Gael Monfils. The Frenchman, who placed 61 winners, threatened to come back from 0-2, but finally could not: 7-6 (1), 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 and 6-4. Sinner hadn't made it past the first round in New York until this year.

Zverev's compatriot, Oscar Otte, continues to dream of a tournament in which he has already won six matches, because he had to play all three of the previous one to be in the main draw, in which he has eliminated Sonego, Kudla and this Saturday, Andreas Seppi, whom he beat 6-3, 6-4, 2-6 and 7-5 in 2:29. Otte, 28 years old and 144th in the world, had the second rounds of Roland Garros 2019 and Wimbledon 2021 as the greatest successes. Against Seppi, 37, he played a very serious game, with 82% of points won with first. It is the first time since 1994 that three Germans have played the round of 16 at the US Open. In that year Karbacher, Renzenbrink and Stich did it. The last Slam in which a Teutonic trio coincided at that point was Wimbledon 1997, with Becker, Kiefer and Stich. Otte will face another Italian, Matteo Berrettini, who remained calm after losing the first set and had to fight for five sets against the worthy Belarusian Ilya Ivashka, to end up dominating him 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6 -4, 2-6 and 6-3 at 3:46.
