“If anything happens we need an experienced goalkeeper”
MADRID, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said he was speaking “positively” about his team because of “the enormous quality of the players” after fighting (1-0) against Getafe to achieve a new victory, seven out of seven, in the start of the EA Sports LaLiga.
“We knew it was going to be difficult, the results against Getafe are always tight. In the first half we didn’t maximise the combination. We fought, we played football, with a very positive mentality. I’m also proud of the fans, today I realised more than ever that we need them, and they did a good job,” he said at a press conference.
The German coach was asked about his team’s performance and that of Robert Lewandowski, who scored his seventh goal. “For me, he is the best number 9 of the last ten years, and his job is in front of goal, scoring goals, we surround him so that they give him that final pass. In the first half we played very fast and we scored, that’s what we want to see,” he said after another goal from the Pole.
“We worked well, we went in hard, we worked on the game plan, on how we want to play, I always talk about positive things because the players know how to play, they know how to occupy various positions, they know how to make that pass at the right time, it’s the enormous quality of the players with the ball. Today we needed a good defence and we can still improve. We can’t complain,” he added.
Flick also spoke highly of Eric García in the pivot position, of Lamine Yamal playing more on the inside and admitted that they will go to the market for a goalkeeper after Ter Stegen’s serious injury. “Iñaki is 25 years old and the rest are very young, if anything happens we need a goalkeeper with experience, that’s why we have thought about it and we will see what ends up happening,” he said.
The Barça coach also admitted that he will analyse this somewhat difficult victory carefully, after some good thrashings. “I think we deserved the victory, we could have also scored at the end. The result is 1-0, three points. It was a tough match, yes, also for us from the bench,” he said.
“Analyzing these types of games helps us a lot. We’re going to analyze it, and I told the players at half-time that we had to increase the speed of our passes. Sometimes it’s more useful to analyze a game like this than one with more goals, to maintain that state of mind of giving our all in the games,” he concluded.
