Fran Mérida: “In preseason it would be a mistake to keep the result”

Fran Mérida, Espanyol midfielder, has made self-criticism after the two defeats of the parakeet team in the two friendlies played so far, but advocates not focusing only on results but in the aspects to improve.

“In preseason it would be a mistake to be left with only one result, regardless of whether we win or lose.Yes, I think it is more important to know how to analyze what we can improve, to understand that we are in a process of both physical and mental preparation and that means that we are going to get better. We want to finish against Granada with a good team feeling“, has said Merida, in statements to the club's official media.

The Catalan midfielder does not avoid putting the focus on what needs to be improved after the first two preparation tests, sendas defeats against UD Las Palmas and Rayo. “I have the feeling that in both games we have been able to score goals, we have created chances, we have done many things well and we have also been penalized some that we have to correct. We assume it, but I keep positive things from these friendlies ”, he pointed. Although he is self-critical when he acknowledges that “we should have been more forceful in both areas, but it is a process that we have to continue to get to the first league game in the best way possible ”.

Espanyol plays this Tuesday against Granada (19 hours), his third friendly of the preseason and the most demanding, without a doubt, so far.
