Espanyol believes in salvation after winning in Vallecas

MADRID, 21 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

RCD Espanyol beat Rayo Vallecano 1-2 this Sunday on matchday 35 of LaLiga Santander, with parakeet goals from Sergi Darder and Nico Melamed to still believe in salvation, after a very intense game that served as a preview of the tachycardia that will be in the last three dates of the championship.

At the Estadio de Vallecas, the visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute with a powerful right foot from Darder. Right on the front line of the rival area, the Espanyol captain controlled a loose ball after a teammate’s header and executed his dry shot, close to the post and that surprised the Rayo goalkeeper.

However, Raúl de Tomás equalized for the Rayista side, converting a penalty on the brink of halftime. The referee had decreed that maximum penalty due to a candid hand by Óscar Gil during a fight with Óscar Trejo on the bottom line. ‘RDT’ did not waste the opportunity and with that 1-1 the first half of the game closed.

Returning from the locker room, Darder was once again the protagonist in the 59th minute. Following individual play, dribbling past two opponents, the blue and white captain shot at the post from the top of the area and Melamed took advantage of the rebound to score on an empty goal. This triumph put Espanyol on 34 points, one away from saving themselves; Rayo continues with 46.
