Chelsea complete Carney Chukwuemeka signing from Aston Villa

LONDON (UNITED KINGDOM), Aug. 4 (PA Media/dpa/EP) –

Chelsea confirmed this Thursday the signing of the young English midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, from Aston Villa, a club with which the player did not want to extend his contract, which expired next summer.

The 18-year-old, who was part of the England team that won the European Under-19 Championship this summer, chooses Stamford Bridge as his next adventure, in a transfer whose amount has not been disclosed.

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard left the midfielder out of the club’s pre-season tour of Australia, so he stayed with the reserves to train.

Chukwuemeka, who turns 19 in October, made his first-team debut in May 2021 and made 14 Premier League appearances last season, starting just two of them.

“It’s been pretty hectic but I couldn’t get Chelsea out of my head in the last couple of days so I’m happy and relieved that it’s all over. I’m really excited and can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet all the players and try to win games and trophies with Chelsea,” said the footballer in statements published by the club.

For his part, the club’s president, Todd Boehly, said that Chukwuemeka “is one of the most impressive young players in Europe.” “We can’t wait to see him in action at Stamford Bridge,” he added.

“We are delighted to be able to bring him to Chelsea and sign such a talented young man to our team for the new season and beyond,” the manager said of the midfielder, to whom his former club “all the best for the future.”
