Deportivo makes the signing of Rubén De la Barrera official

He Sports announced this Tuesday the hiring of the Coruña technician Ruben de la Barrera to supply Fernando Vazquez on the blue and white first team bench.

Of the Barrier, who will turn 36 next Monday, will take charge of the team from this Wednesday at the Abegondo Sports City with the aim of achieving promotion to LaLiga SmartBank.

The young sports coach began his career with 25 years in Third Division after having gone through different amateur football teams in La Coruña.

In the fourth category of national football, he led Villaralbo, then went through Guijuelo in Second B and managed to classify the team for a “playoff” of promotion to Second, in which he was eliminated by Leganés.

Between his two stages in the Guijuelo team, he directed the Valladolid subsidiary and, later, he was in charge of the Cultural Leonesa, with which he rose to the silver category.

De la Barrera trained the Leonese team in that division, but could not avoid relegation to Second B after the 42 rounds played.

Then, for half a season, he took charge of the Real Sociedad attack with Asier Garitano as head coach and, once he left the San Sebastian club, he resumed his individual career in Qatar with Al-Ahli.

This season, he managed the Romanian Viitorul, from whom he also separated, and now he will fulfill one of his career goals, to coach his hometown team.

He will do it in Second B with the purpose of taking flight after the first two defeats of the championship, which marked the end point of the second stage of Fernando Vazquez as Deportivo coach.

The A Coruña club had not had a coach from the city at the helm of the squad since the 1990s, when José Manuel Corral replaced first John Benjamin Toshack and, later, Brazilian Carlos Alberto Silva.
