Crystal Palace falls in the League Cup … after 24 penalties

Crystal Palace was the only 'Premier' team to enter the fray in the second round of the League Cup (EFL Cup) that fell to a minor league team, Bournemouth, from the Championship., in a tie decided in the penalty shootout, after the goalless draw, and with up to 24 shots.

The outcome of the match that led to the first elimination in the League Cup of a top-flight English team was like a movie. Following the 0-0 draw at Vitality Stadium, all outfield players from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace scored on their turn on penalties. The two goalkeepers, Asmir Begovic and Wayne Hennessey failed, and the equality was undone on shot 24, when Serbian midfielder Luka Milivojevic missed.

Unlike Crystal Palace, the rest of the English top flight teams complied. Newcastle did it by the minimum against Blackburn (1-0) thanks to both Scottish Ryan Fraser; in the last minutes the difference in quality of Aston Villa at home to the modest Burton of Third (1-3) decided, with decisive goals in the last two minutes from Jack Grealish and Keinan Davis; and West Ham was the one that signed the most comfortable victory against Charlton (3-0) with a double from Haller and a goal from Brazilian Felipe Anderson.
