Copa del Rey quarter draw: teams, rules, format, conditions and how it works

This Friday, at 12:30 p.m., the Copa del Rey quarterfinal pairings will be announced. David Villa will play the innocent hand in a draw that will be pure. There will be no conditions. There will be a great rival to beat: Real Madrid. The great ogre. Athletic will be the other coconut in a round that will take place on February 1, 2 and 3.

There are only eight teams left standing. Among them are not three of the great contenders for the title: Barcelona (king of cups and reigning champion) Atletico and Seville. There is also no Second Division team left standing. Real Madrid, favorite for the title, will be in the hype; Athletic, another of the candidates and runner-up in the last two editions, or revelation teams this season such as Rayo and Betis. There will also be Valencia, Mallorca, Cádiz and Real Sociedad. This round will coincide with the last days of the national team break. That is to say, there will be teams harmed by this coincidence that cannot count on several of their international soccer players. As is the case with Pezzella and Guido at Betis, Falcao at Rayo, Maxi Gómez and Alderete at Valencia or Casemiro, Militao, Rodrygo, Vinicius and Valverde at Real Madrid.

this round it will be the last single match and will be played at the home of the team whose ball is drawn first. It will be in the semifinals when the first leg format (February 9) and return (March 2) will be recovered, with the aim of being in the final of La Cartuja on April 23.

Rules and conditions of the draw

The draw for the quarterfinals will take place this Friday, January 21, in the Luis Aragonés room of the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas at 12:30 p.m. Unlike previous giveaways, this one will be pure. That is, there will be no conditions. The eight classified clubs will be in the same pot and as the balls are drawn, the four qualifiers will be decided. Everyone can face everyone.

quarters format

The Copa del Rey quarterfinal matches will be played on February 1, 2 and 3. It will continue to be a single match and the team whose ball has been drawn first in the draw will act as local. As has already happened in the round of 16, the help of video arbitration will be used again during the matches, a tool that was not used during the first three rounds.

The four winners of this tie will qualify for the semifinals, whose crosses will be drawn on February 4. Said round will be played in two games and not one, as will happen until the quarterfinals. The first leg will take place on February 9 and the return on March 2. The winners of these semifinals will be in the final of La Cartuja on April 23.
