Clijsters will keep his return to the tracks after the pandemic

At the end of last year, Kim Clijsters surprised the tennis world by announcing his return to the courts after he retired a second time in 2012. The Belgian, who became number one in the world in 2003, he previously retired to start a family. He did it in 2007, and in 2009 he returned to reap great results. In his achievements, there are three victories in the United States Open (2005, 2009 and 2010), one in the Australian Open (2011) and two Ronald Garros finals (2001 and 2003), in addition to having reached number one in the ranking of the WTA in August 2003. In June he will be 37 years old.

His return occurred in February in Dubai, through an invitation, and he did it precisely before Garbiñe Muguruza. The Belgian fell in treitandosavos despite facing against Garbiñe (6-2 and 7-6 (6)), but still far from reaching his best physical condition. Later, in March, he returned to play the same round at the Monterrey Open, being alighted by the British Johanna Konta (6-3 and 7-5). Since then, and after the break, he has not played in competition again, but he keeps his illusions intact to continue competing eight years after leaving him.

“I hope we can play this season. But even if we don't, I intend to keep going. I'm motivated “, he told the Belgian media. Currently, Clijsters does not have ranking, so you will have to receive invitations to play tournaments. He was in the United States to contest the Indian Wells, canceled hours before starting. Now, it is clear where you want to participate: “If the US Open is finally held, I would like to be.”
