Carreño strikes down Sinner and remains intractable in Montreal

MADRID, 12 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Pablo Carreño has reached the quarterfinals of the Montreal tournament (Canada), the sixth Masters 1,000 of the season, for the first time in his career after defeating the Italian Jannik Sinner this morning (6-2, 6-4) , and the pass to the semifinals will be played against the British Jack Draper.

The Spaniard continues his impeccable career in the Canadian event, in which he has not yet lost a set – a 6-0 record this week – nor has he faced a break point against. After leaving Matteo Berrettini and Holger Rune behind, the number 23 in the world has done the same with the number 12 in the ATP ranking.

Carreño only needed two breaks in the first set and one in the second to get rid of the last rival who beat him on hard courts in one hour and 24 minutes, at the Masters 1,000 in Miami. His victory guarantees him to get into the ‘Top 20’ of the ranking next Monday.

Now, in his seventh quarter-final of a Masters 1,000 and in his 100th match in a tournament of that category, he will face the British Jack Draper, from the previous phase and who advanced after the withdrawal of the French Gael Monfils (6- 2, 0-2); the English eliminated the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round.
