Carreño, in the select group of Spaniards with the most semifinals

With his pass to the semifinals of the US Open, his second in the Grand Slam, both in the New York tournament, Pablo Carreño entered the select club of Spanish players who have played two or more times in the penultimate round of a major. With a single semifinal there are seven other tennis players from the Armada: Manuel Alonso, Juan Gisbert, Fernando Verdasco, Albert Costa, Felix Mantilla, Alberto Berasategui and recently Roberto Bautista, who last year played at Wimbledon (he fell against Novak Djokovic).

Carreño disputes his 26th Grand Slam and in addition to the two semifinals reached at the US Open (2017 and 2020), he played the Roland Garros quarterfinals in 2017 (he lost against Nadal). There is a wide group of national players whose top was that, among them Feliciano López, Emilio Sánchez Vicario, Tommy Robredo, Nicolás Almagro, Javier Sánchez Vicario and Albert Ramos.
