The town of Canfranc in Huesca will host the third edition of the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships from September 25 to 28, 2025, in which around 1,700 athletes from 70 countries around the world will compete in the 4-kilometer ‘Uphill’ tests, ‘ Classic’ of 12 km, ‘Marathon’ of 45 km, ‘Ultra’ of 75 km and Sub-20 of 6 km.

“On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, we are delighted to host the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships in 2025 in our country, and we are looking forward to welcoming the best mountain and trail running runners from all corners of the world”, Raúl Chapado, president of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, said in a statement.

Canfranc will host the World Master Championship this year, before taking over from Innsbruck (Austria) as organizer of the elite category next year, in addition to carrying out the Canfranc-Canfranc, an annual competition that includes two races of the ‘Valsir Mountain Running World Cup’ in the Gold category, the most important circuit in the world for mountain racing.

From the International Athletics Federation they add that it will be the second time that the championship is held in Europe and showed their “confidence” that the second edition in Innsbruck and Stubai will be a “resounding success” and that this third in Canfranc will reach levels “still higher”.
