Canales decides the controversial Seville derby

MADRID, 16 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Real Betis sealed their place in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals after completing their comeback against Sevilla FC (2-1) in a match that had to end this Sunday after being suspended on Saturday after Joan Jordán received the impact of a bar thrown from the stands.

With a goal from Sergio Canales, Manuel Pellegrini’s men sealed their victory in the restart and join Valencia, RCD Mallorca, Cádiz and Rayo Vallecano in the next round of the ‘ko’ tournament.

More than 17 hours after the match had to be stopped, Verdiblancos and Nervionenses met on the same stage, the Benito Villamarín, although behind closed doors, to finish the 50 minutes that still remained of the game when the referee from Burgos Bengoetxea decided Send all players to locker rooms.

Earlier, in the 34th minute, ‘Papu’ Gómez had managed to open the light after a good recovery down the wing by Oliver Torres, although Nabil Fekir was soon in charge of neutralizing the goal, taking advantage of the poor positioning of the young goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor, too advanced to avoid the olympic goal of the clever French.

Right after, in celebration of the goal, an object thrown from the back of Villamarín hit Jordán’s head and chaos broke out, which ended almost 45 minutes later with the suspension of the match. The Competition Committee urged to finish the game this Sunday, despite the opposition of a Sevilla weighed down by casualties and that they could not count on a Jordán who will have to spend 24 hours under observation.

With Acuña and Koundé as novelties in the Sevilla squad and Sabaly in the Betic side, the clash resumed without an audience and with Betis threatening a goal from Juanmi that the referee annulled for offside.

Oliver Torres and Montiel also sought to surprise Rui Silva after the restart, but it was Sergio Canales who managed to come back from the duel for Manuel Pellegrini’s men with a cross shot after taking advantage of a magnificent pass from William Carvalho to the Spaniard’s run (min. 72).

Koundé was about to force extra time with a shot that hit the crossbar, before Ocampos also tried it after catching a rebound that finally went wide.
