Calleja: “I like what I see and I am passionate about what is coming”

How have you lived through this situation?

We have been through a hard, very sad and complicated situation. All my people were in Madrid, so I have many family, friends or acquaintances who have had a very bad time. Whether they are your immediate relatives who have been affected or a friend or acquaintance. It has been hard and it has been very difficult to be as we are now, so we must be responsible and among all we do not go back.

And how did you come back from football and all this way?

We knew that we had the responsibility to do it well, although always under the control of the authorities and Health. For what we worked waiting for us to give us the pleasure of being able to continue and advance, we have done it with great seriousness and professionalism. It has been a group work and it is true that there were fear and people that we had against, but I think that the vast majority of soccer people wanted to return and that there would be some normality with that return. It was to try that within the drama, football was a sign that there was a way and a way to recover our lives. It was an intelligent step, a step with a head and I think it was done in a serious way.

And you have done well and from the first day. They are happy because of how they have managed it as a club …

We have worked from the first moment to adapt to this new situation and I think we did well from the beginning. I have to congratulate the people who are working with me as they have done a great job. I think this situation has forced us to reinvent ourselves and do different things. The truth is that I think this is something that will be good for us in the future.

How have they managed?

We have talked a lot with each other and from the first day we have sought that the players had everything we could give them so that they could work in the best way. It has been a good job, but it has been possible due to the interest and desire of the entire team. I can only thank the players and congratulate them. They have returned to a very good level and the tests we have done have been very positive.

Play without people. What does that tell you?

In this the hobby has a key role. When you play, you know that a mistake or a hit feels more because people feel it with you. Playing without an audience is something that will shock us, since we have never experienced it. For this reason, we are working so that we all realize that what we are going to experience is going to be strange and that we must adapt to it. We are not going to have our people, so we must be the ones to help and support our companion. We are the ones who must stay tense and involved in the party.

In other words, should the most reliable play?

You have players who are more reliable, players who you know are going to be regular and who are very focused. That kind of player that now suits you. But you also have more intermittent players, players who get more confused; But they are very unbalanced footballers and also necessary at certain times, so we must have a mixture of everything.

Is it true that everyone is going to play or is it postureo?

We are going to play many games and a very intense league final, so we are going to need everyone. The player must be aware that the time he is on the field must give his all and be as intense as possible. This is a time for everyone.

What happened before stopping is good for anything?

The team was in a good line of results, which were cut short by three rare games in which many things happened. But now we must focus on what is coming, this is new and it will be very different. There are eleven different games, both in the mood and in the sport. Therefore, we must focus and give the best of each one.

Will there be many changes and rotations?

We cannot change nine or ten players per game, but we must rotate a lot. I see the players working at a great level, so it makes me feel confident that we can make those changes. From one game to another there can be four or five changes for sure.

You have stopped twice in the middle of the championship in two years, which has allowed you to analyze things with more time and without the speed of the games. How do you rate it?

I have stopped twice in two years, once for dismissal and the other for this pandemic. Something that has made me value things with more pause and more tranquility. In this day and age where you are so stressed out and constantly in the fight, you don't have time to stop and analyze things from peace of mind. This moment has served me to stop, to see things with perspective and to draw many conclusions.

Is this like a World Cup or a Club Euro Cup?

For us it is key to face this as a World Cup or a competition of that type, since it seems to be short and with a clear objective that you can achieve in a short period of time. There is no time to lament and to be negative, just think about the team and what we can all achieve together.

And how is it dealt with?

The one who understands the situation the quickest, the one who adapts the fastest and realizes what is being played has the most options to win. In addition, if you have your people convinced and with clear ideas, it will be much easier.

Short competitions invite mooring. How do you see it?

We will not change, we will go out to win every game. We are not going to speculate. We are a team that has an idea and that has a leading role. Let's be ourselves.

And how tired do you think it will influence?

It is clear that tiredness will be key, since it will be intense and in a short time. For this reason, we know that the parties will be more open. We know that if you do your job well, you can make the rival arrive more worn and more touched to that final stretch. We are lucky to have players of all kinds, we have variants for each moment of each game.

What about the five changes?

Each team will do what it believes in. You can make five changes, you have three moments throughout the game, to which you can add the break; so you have alternatives to be able to vary many things during the meeting. We will see how we do it. I think that at this point and with the heat, it is also good for the players.

How do you see things in a week?

I think we have a very good squad, a squad with good players, who are motivated. I like what I see and I am passionate about what is coming. I see that there are eleven exciting games, eleven different games, in which we can achieve something very beautiful if we do things well.
