Bruno Fernandes stops his renewal in his tracks

The renewal of Bruno Fernandes seems to go a long way. After rejecting an offer to improve his contract last summer, the Portuguese midfielder has postponed any negotiations until the end of the season.

According to the English press, the former Sporting player has a contract that does not fit his current status. Since his arrival in January 2020, Bruno has received just over 6 million euros gross per season, four times less than what Cristiano Ronaldo or David De Gea earn, the highest paid in the ‘red devils’ squad.

The Portuguese, with a contract until 2025, intends to equate himself with them and reflect his importance in the team. However, he is in no hurry to sign and wants to wait to see how United’s season unfolds before deciding what to do, opening the door to an exit if the Old Trafford side are not competitive.

At least seven players are believed to be paid more than Bruno on the team. Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani, as well as CR7 and De Gea would be above him in terms of salary, something that United want to correct, although for the moment they have not achieved it.
