Borussia Dortmund, with faith for the return against City

Despite the 2-1 defeat against Manchester City by Pep Guardiola in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final (with which Borussia Dortmund have not won 3 games in all competitions), the German team is confident in their chances facing the return.

Phil Foden scored the winning goal in the last minute for City on Tuesday after Dortmund drew about six minutes from time, but for striker and captain Marco Reus the tie remains open.

“If we had come home 1-1, everyone would have been satisfied,” Reus said. “Now the feeling is not so good for us, although we did a lot of things well.”

Borussia Dortmund, in a bad Bundesliga season, could miss next season's Champions League, as they are 7 points behind 4th place, after Saturday's 2-1 defeat to their direct rival, Eintracht Frankfurt.

But success in Europe, especially against City, would go a long way to rebuilding confidence in the team and at the same time reestablishing ties with their fans, angered by the meeting of striker Erling Haaland's representatives with several major European clubs, while the team struggles to carry out a good end to the season. Dortmund are qualified for the eighth of the German Cup.

Haaland, who has 21 league goals and another 10 in the Champions League this season, has failed to score in his last five games between Dortmund and the national team.

Marco Reus said about the return to City: “The chances of qualifying are there. We have to get it right on the lap. It will be a great challenge and a test at the highest level ”.

Edin Terzic, Borussia Dortmund coach, assured that City are the best team in the world, but that the goal scored by Reus in the first leg is crucial. It is the first goal conceded by Guardiola's team in the Champions League since the first game of the league, in October (3-1 against Porto).
