Borg-Santana: the story of the reunion of legends and directors of the Roman Bridge

Bjorn Borg and Manolo Santana, two great legends of world tennis, have met again this year on a stage that meant a lot to both of them and of which both were directors in their early days, the Club Puente Romano de Marbella. On Monday, they both attended the opening day of the main draw of the AnyTech365 Andalucía Open, and were photographed together. A luxury in a venue that meant a lot to both of them.

Borg married Mariana Simionescu there in 1980, a year after the inauguration, when he became director before Santana took over from him in 1983. to run the Club until 1988. The 64-year-old Swede has accompanied his son Leo in Marbella, the fruit of his third marriage, with Patricia Östfeldt, who at the age of 18 tries to break through in the circuit, although in the Malaga town he had no luck even in the previous Challenger last week, in which he fell to the first against Taro Daniel (6-1 and 6-2) , nor in the ATP 250, when he also lost in the first round against Russian Evgeny Donskoy (6-1 and 6-0).

In 1979, Borg and Santana (82) played an exhibition match at Puente Romano, with the former winning 6-3 and 6-0. More than 30 years later, in 2011, the Stockholm star played the Marbella Masters at the invitation of Santana, with whom he has always maintained a great friendship, meeting at different events over the last decades. The two are scheduled to participate in the trophy delivery of the last day of the Andalucía Open, where they will be the object of a tribute and which they will enjoy these days.
