Barça, Betis and Athletic unite against player traffic

The foundations of Betis, Athletic Bilbao and Barça have alerted this Thursday to the serious situation in which many young people who are victims of trafficking in persons by criminal organizations who cheat these young people and their families with the promise of being players in the Spanish league.

Betis, on the international day against the treatment of people, has reported this scourge suffered by young people who come “deceived” to Spain with the lure of football and who subsequently they are involved in prostitution schemes such as the one disbanded a few weeks ago by the State security forces in Andalusia.

Each of the families of these young people, according to Betis, was forced to apply for financial loans from criminal organizations that charge high interest; what has led to both young people and their families receive constant threats, until these credits were returned.

The social entity Nuevo Hogar Betania has taken over its comprehensive care and foundations of Athletic Club, Betis and Barça have contacted this organization to give it support in the emotional and formative recovery of these young people.

The foundations of these three clubs have been working for years to support children and young people through various social and sports for development programs, and now they join forces to report a problem as serious as human trafficking and to carry out actions to support victims.

For its part, the entity Nuevo Hogar Betania thanks the clubs for their support and denounces the situation in which many of these young people find themselves, not only in Spain but in many countries of the world.
