The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, received this Tuesday the staff, coaching staff and board of directors of CD Leganés, which “has proven to be a First Team”, after its promotion to LaLiga EA Sports achieved this Sunday, thanks which will compete with “some of the best clubs in the world” next season.
“It is an immense honor to receive the champions of the Second Division in the Community of Madrid. But, above all, it is an honor to do so when Leganés has shown, once again, that it is a First Division team and that it is going to beat the with some of the best football clubs in the world,” said the president during her speech at the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional government.
Ayuso stressed the fact that thanks to the promotion of Leganés, the Community of Madrid can “boast” of having “five teams in the First Division” -Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Rayo Vallecano, Getafe and Leganés-. “On Sunday, a match was held in Butarque that will go down in the history of the city and Madrid football. Thousands of pepineros, children, grandparents and young people, all in love with their team, celebrated together with their hearts in their hands, this triumph” , he added.
“You are a beacon where so many children and young people look at each other, dreaming of one day being like you or at least similar to you. And you are also the pride of the elders of Leganés, who after so many years of loyalty to the colors, are going to see your team to play,” the president concluded in her speech.
The captain of CD Leganés, Sergio González, also appeared, highlighting that with “a lot of effort and sacrifice” they have been able to “fill many people with joy.” “There is a lot of work behind this success of all the club’s workers and an entire city. In Leganés dreams come true and we have made it possible,” he noted.
For his part, the president of the cucumber entity, Jeff Luhnow, explained that this Sunday was “an incredible day” and that they are “very grateful” to the Community and Ayuso for receiving them in such a “special” place. “We were successful because we have a team of individuals, but with DNA and locker room chemistry, and this makes the sum of the individual much greater on a collective level,” he said.
At the event, in which the entire CD Leganés team participated, as well as its coaches and board, the Pepinera entity gave the president of the Community of Madrid a team shirt signed by all the players.
