Álvaro Robles says goodbye to the World Championship in Durban

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish table tennis team was left without representation in the World Championship in Durban (South Africa) with the defeats this Wednesday of Álvaro Robles, beaten in the third individual round, and the men’s doubles, in the round of 16.

In a very close match, Robles fell to the Italian Mihai Bobocica, who won 2-4. The Spaniard began by giving up the first set by a tight 9-11, but managed to turn the match around with two very serious games, with great concentration and applying his rhythm. Despite winning these two sets (11-3, 11-4), Robles lost in the following ones (9-11, 7-11, 14-16).

Robles’ defeat in singles was preceded by elimination in the men’s doubles category, where together with his Romanian partner Ovidiu Ionescu, they were knocked out of the tournament in the round of 16 by the Korean duo Lee/Cho. The duo runner-up in the world in the last Championship gave in with a 1-3 against the Asian.
