Alonso will start third in Qatar due to the sanctions of Verstappen and Bottas

MADRID, 21 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) has been sanctioned with five positions on the starting grid of the Grand Prix of Qatar, twentieth and third-to-last round of the Formula 1 World Championship, for failing to respect the yellow flag period during qualifying on Saturday , a sanction that has also fallen on the Finn Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and that will motivate the Spanish Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) to come out third.

The World Championship leader did not respect, according to the stewards, the double yellow flag that was waved after the car of Frenchman Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) stopped on the track. Thus, he will have to be five places behind from second on the starting grid.

In addition, the Finn Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), who was about to start third, will also have to penalize three positions on the grid for the same reason, although in his case he only ignored a simple yellow.

In this way, Alonso will start the Grand Prix third, after making a great classification on Saturday that led him to guarantee the fifth starting position.
