The cyclist Alejandro Valverde will be the number 1 dorsal of the eighth edition of the Gran Fondo Ézaro, which will be held on July 9 in Galicia, and will become the headliner and great claim of a test that moves to the south of the Coast of Death.
“Alejandro Valverde returns to the Ézaro cement wall. The eighth edition of the Ézaro Gran Fondo will receive a former world champion in Galicia on July 9, also opening a new route that will explore the southernmost area of the Coast da Morte,” the organization announced.
In this edition there will be a single distance of 107 kilometers for all the participants, in a different route to that of the previous editions that will start at the foot of the O Ézaro waterfall, go through the coast of Carnota and Muros to the town of Esteiro, to face the ascent to the Alto da Laxe pass.
After that, the peloton will cross Mazaricos and border Mount Pindo to head towards emblematic spaces of the Xacobeo road. The fork in the extension of the road to Fisterra and Muxía or the statue dedicated to Vákner will be places of passage before facing the final climb to the Ó Ézaro Viewpoint.
In addition to Alejandro Valverde, retired last year as a professional and now active in gravel, who will be the number 1 number, other great names in cycling who participated in the past could be at the event, such as Miguel Indurain, Claudio Chiapucci, Samuel Sánchez or Roberto Heras.
The manager of EME Sports, Ezequiel Mosquera, organizer of the march, defined it as a route “neither short nor long” accessible to all, and which will allow the discovery of “impressive new spaces” on the Costa da Morte.
