A footballer from Almería has tested positive for coronavirus after undergoing the medical tests established by LaLiga yesterday. Once the result was known, the club has quickly suspended the training session, sent the players home and will pass the tests again to all its staff. The disinfection of the Mediterranean stadium has also been ordered.

Yesterday, all players exercised under the new coach, so there was contact between the person affected and the others. This directly influences the celebration of the promotion playoff to First Division, the dates of which are still pending the resolution of the Competition Committee of the Spanish Federation on Deportivo-Fuenlabrada, suspended after up to 26 members of the Madrid club tested positive for coronavirus.

Almería have to play that first playoff tie against Girona. The first meeting, in the Catalan city, should have been played on July 23, but it was postponed until the Competition ruling, which seems imminent. In fact, LaLiga was planning to start those playoffs this weekend, but this case completely breaks the agenda and opens a new period of uncertainty.

Almería hired José Gomes two days ago, his fifth coach of the season, to attempt promotion to the First Division in the two remaining qualifying rounds. The Andalusian team, which would have already had four coaches this year, finished in fourth place in the regular league.

As AS has learned, not playing the promotion promotion is not contemplated in the club, trusting that it is an isolated case. The entity argues the case of Real Madrid, with Mariano isolated and the rest of the team preparing their participation in the Champions League. Of course, in the surroundings of the club they did not like some activities of the players carried out on their days off. “LaLiga and the Federation will solve it in the best way. TI have a lot of confidence in those who are going to make the decision, since they are very prepared for them, “said the director general, Mohamed El Assy, yesterday, in relation to Fuenlabrada.

. This is the statement with which Almería announced it:

The UD Almería communicates that after medical tests of COVID-19 carried out yesterday on an individual basis to the staff, technical staff, employees and leaders of the club, a positive case has been detected in a member of the team. Quickly and according to the protocol established by LaLiga and the CSD regarding health security material, this person has been isolated, who does not present any symptoms and is in good health.

In parallel, UD Almería training has been suspended, all members of the staff are in their private homes and all the premises of the Mediterranean Games Stadium have begun to be disinfected.

The club has brought this situation to the attention of the health authorities, in addition to also ceasing activity at the entity's headquarters, always following the recommendations of the protocol established for these cases. Similarly, the City Council has been informed, through the Municipal Sports Board and the councilor responsible for sports.
