The first division of soccer Russia recorded this Saturday the first case of coronavirus. It's about the Peruvian footballer Jefferson Farfán, who militates in the Lokomotiv of Moscow. The diagnosis is confirmed only a few days after the government relaxed containment measures and after the Russian Football Federation announced the return of official competitions starting June 21.

Lokomotiv informed his followers of the positive case of Covid 19 through a Twitter message. “Coronavirus was diagnosed in our player Jefferson Farfán. Our best wishes for good health, Jeff! Get well soon!", wrote the club on his Twitter account.

From the club they have reported that the case of the Peruvian player is not more serious. Anatoli Mecheriakov, president of the entity's Board of Directors, reported that Farfan is in Moscow and he has not been hospitalized. "This decision will be made based on the recommendations of the authorities and the doctors," he added in statements to the Ria Novosti press agency.

Farfán has spent several months away from the root fields of a serious knee injury who suffered during a match for the Peru team in the Copa América that took place in Brazil in 2019. The midfielder, who is 35 years old and who arrived at Lokomotiv in 2017, did not participate in any game in the season which was ongoing until the suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The confirmation of the first positive in the highest category comes only hours after The Russian Football Federation will announce that the championship will resume on June 21. This decision is in line with those that have already been taken by other leagues such as the one in Germany (it returned to activity this weekend) or the one in England, which has already received the endorsement of its government to return to dispute from the 1st of June.

Russia is the second country with the most coronavirus infections in the world with more than 270,000 confirmed cases. In recent weeks, the government decided to gradually ease the containment measures it had decided on in March.
