MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish women’s soccer team will close the year 2024 in second place in the FIFA ranking, improving one position compared to the previous classification, the governing body of world soccer confirmed this Friday.
Those of Montse Tomé, current world champions, will finish 2024 only behind the United States, which defends first place. Thus, they improve one position compared to the ranking update for the month of August.
The podium is closed by Germany, the Spanish executioner in the bronze medal match at Paris 2024, and England, which was second in the August ranking, has dropped to fourth place. For its part, Sweden maintains fifth place, ahead of Canada, Brazil, Japan, North Korea and the Netherlands, which complete the ‘Top 10’.
In this way, the Spanish women close a year in which they have won the Nations League and have almost won the medals – fourth – at the Paris Olympic Games, in addition to qualifying for the 2025 Euro Cup. On the other hand, Aitana Bonmatí , the national team’s top scorer in 2024 with nine goals, won her second Ballon d’Or and the fourth for Spanish women’s football.
